Young Astronomer Program: The Sky Wizard Certificates
Introduction
Become a Sky Wizard and Master the Universe!
Have you ever wondered if you could ever find your way through all those stars at night without getting lost? Would you like to see a planet that's hotter than your kitchen oven or larger than 1200 Earths? Then we've got an out-of-this-world program just for you. Join our Sky Wizard program and learn the magic and wonders of the universe above your own backyard on any clear night. If you think you've got what it takes to master the universe, then you can earn points toward receiving certificates for different levels of skill. Each level will earn you cool prizes of Chapters Bookstore gift certificates or even some awesome Sky Wizard gear like glow in the dark star maps and special stargazer flashlights.
Start off by checking out the night skies above your own backyard. If you get stuck on something, don’t worry, just ask your parents to bring you out to any of our way-out star parties and ask one of our RASCals for some hints. RASCals are real expert stargazers who own telescopes and binoculars and have been learning the sky for years.
Once you think you've finished your level, just give all your answers to one of the RASCals before April 1st and you'll receive your certificates at the annual RASC Astronomy day celebrations held at the Pointe Claire Chapters.
Sky Wizard Levels
Level 1. Using just your eyes find 2 bright constellations, a planet, identify the Moon shapes, and find a double star.
Level 2. Using either your eyes or binoculars find 4 more constellations, 2 more planets, identify 4 lunar craters, and find a star cluster.
Level 3. Using binoculars and telescopes find 6 more constellations, see Jupiter or Saturn and its Moons, Mercury and a phase of Venus, 2 more star clusters and 2 gas clouds (nebula)

Wizard Training Workshops – Learn the secrets of the stars !
Being a Sky Wizard you get to go to special workshops where you will be able to make your own astronomy gear. You’ll be able to build special Wizard tools to help you find your way through the Milky Way at night. Try making a Big Dipper clock, a sundial or your own wacky vegetable universe and more. All you have to do is have your mom or dad sign you up at www.rascmontreal.org before the first Thursday of every month and you can enter a Wizard Workshop. It's that easy!
The workshops will also give you a chance to meet RASCals and other Sky Wizards, and it's a great place to get tips on how you can earn your certificates faster without getting lost in space.
Good Luck to all Sky Wizards!
