This Astronomy is for the Birds
Bruno Paul Stenson

Summary
Astronomers often explore the night sky with the help of lists of various types of astronomical targets such as the Messier list of fuzzy things that are not comets, a list of multiple stars, a list of lunar craters, etc. However, interests outside the field of astronomy can help in the creation of lists that combine a wide variety of targets. Bruno Paul Stenson will illustrate this by showing how an interest in birding can lead to an exploration of the night sky.

About the Speaker
Bruno Paul Stenson has had a fascination for astronomy and ornithology since childhood: he grew up in a leafy suburb full of birds at the time NASA was sending astronauts to the moon. Since then, he has become a member of the RASC Montreal Centre and of Bird Protection Québec, the oldest birding group in the province, leading him to spend much of his leisure time peering through lenses at one thing or another. In real life, Bruno is a historian - musicologist who gives public lectures on a variety of topics in the fields of Canadian history and musical instruments. While he has academic credentials in history (a Master's degree from Concordia University), he relies on natural talent in music: he plays 242 different types of musical instrument from around the world.
